HOW TO FIND RESUME KEYWORDS AND WHY YOU NEED THEM

What's all this talk about keywords? We're told they're essential to a job search -- we should use them in our resume and cover letters and use them when searching for job openings. But what are they really, and how do you know you're using the right ones?

Keywords are specific words or phrases that job seekers use to search for jobs and employers use to find the right candidates. Keywords are used as search criteria in the same way you do research on the Internet. The more keywords you use, the more closely the job will match what you're really looking for.

For example, if you type the word "retail" into a search engine, you'll get literally thousands of job descriptions. But if you type the phrase "merchandising manager," you're going to get fewer and more useful results.

Get keyed up.
Most job postings are loaded with industry- and position-specific buzzwords. Take your cues straight from the source and include those same words in your resume. To find more keywords, research industry trends and visit professional association Web sites to uncover current buzzwords -- especially those used by the hiring company or industry leaders.

Don't get lost in translation.
Most companies use applicant tracking software, which scans resumes for keywords relating to skills, training, degrees, job titles and experience. Make sure your resume gets through the gatekeeper -- present your qualifications as if the reader is comparing the words on the resume to a list of desired qualifications.

Remember the magic words.
Here are some specific examples of popular keywords. Make sure to also use keywords that are specific to your industry.

Performance and productivity improvement

Organizational design

Infrastructure development

E-commerce

Change management

Leadership

Competitive market

Product positioning

Defínete a ti mismo y tu mensaje

Quick Reumes Work Best Write Yours In Less Than An Hour

Write Your Résumé in an Hour Natalie Ostrom, Jist Publishing

Too often people spend so much time trying to perfect their résumé, they lose sight of their real goal -- to find a job. You've probably heard your friends, family members or even yourself say that you will start looking for that new job as soon as you get your résumé put together. And then a month or year passes and you still haven't finished the first step toward a new career. Résumés don't have to be hard to create, they don't have to be time-consuming, and they don't have to be intimidating.

Plain and simple: a résumé is a one- or two-page summary of your life and employment history. According to Michael Farr, author of "Same-Day Résumé" (JIST), before you begin the writing process, you should learn what to expect from your résumé.

"As a first step in creating a résumé, examine what a résumé is and consider what it can and cannot do," Farr says.

A résumé presents you to prospective employers. It serves as your introduction and is often used in their screening process. It may get you an interview and it may not, it all depends on what that particular employer is looking for in a new employee.

Don't depend on your résumé to do your job search for you......Resume Tips NY NURSE CAREER

How Do I Make Myself Look Good Without Lying

Six Ways to Embellish Your Résumé Without Lying Kate Lorenz, CareerBuilder.com editor

Most of us accept the fact that, many times, a sales pitch tends to stretch the truth: That stain remover really can't make a grape juice stain disappear from white carpeting "like magic," and Sea Monkeys aren't really cute little mermaid-like creatures that frolic around in an underwater kingdom.

But stretching the truth on your résumé, even though it is the equivalent of a sales pitch promoting you, is never acceptable.

Of course, you may not have to endure the public humiliation David Edmondson, former CEO of Radio Shack, did when newspapers across the nation reported he resigned after admitting the degrees listed on his résumé were "incorrect." And Oprah isn't likely to rip you on her show like she did James Frey when false portrayals of his past in his "non-fiction" memoir "A Million Little Pieces" were uncovered. But the point is, while you may feel the need to pump up your résumé to grab an interviewer's attention and land that prized position, eventually these "little white lies" will catch up with you.

So how can you enhance your résumé without going overboard? Try some of these tricks: NY NURSE CAREER

What Not To Wear To A Job Interview

What is the worst outfit ever worn to a job interview? For a career services director at the University of Chicago, it was the applicant who sported a Madras tie as a belt and a patterned cotton hat. Other contenders, according to a CareerBuilder.com survey of hiring managers, include candidates with dirty fingernails, micro-miniskirts, t-shirts with offensive slogans and even bare feet!

Resume Distribution Network

The trend for several years now has been for job seekers to post their resume on various employment web sites. These sites then charge recruiters and employment agencies large fees to search for candidates.

Instead of taking the time to post your resume to all the job boards, then hoping recruiters will use the correct keywords to find your resume, we distribute your resume directly to recruiters working in your field. This is targeted, proactive resume distribution to the professionals who represent thousands of companies with great jobs. Recruiters and employment agencies work virtually every open job position including an overwhelming amount of confidential or "hidden market" jobs not posted or advertised.

There is no need to spend time researching recruiters and employment agencies; let us do the work for you. You can spend your time preparing for interviews! Choose a resume distribution package from the table above to begin the sign up process or learn more.
